Saturday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Reading 1 : Amos 9:11-15
Thus says the LORD:
On that day I will raise up
the fallen hut of David;
I will wall up its breaches,
raise up its ruins,
and rebuild it as in the days of old,
That they may conquer what is left of Edom
and all the nations that shall bear my name,
say I, the LORD, who will do this.
Yes, days are coming,
says the LORD,
When the plowman shall overtake the reaper,
and the vintager, him who sows the seed;
The juice of grapes shall drip down the mountains,
and all the hills shall run with it.
I will bring about the restoration of my people Israel;
they shall rebuild and inhabit their ruined cities,
Plant vineyards and drink the wine,
set out gardens and eat the fruits.
I will plant them upon their own ground;
never again shall they be plucked
From the land I have given them,
say I, the LORD, your God.
Responsorial Psalm : Psalm 85:9 and 10, 11-12, 13-14

I will hear what God proclaims;
the LORD–for he proclaims peace to his people.
Near indeed is his salvation to those who fear him,
glory dwelling in our land.

and justice shall look down from heaven.

I know them, and they follow me.

Gospel : Matthew 9:14-17
The disciples of John approached Jesus and said,
“Why do we and the Pharisees fast much,
but your disciples do not fast?”
Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast.
No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth,
for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse.
People do not put new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined.
Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Message from the Readings
Today’s readings proclaim restoration, renewal, and the newness of God’s work.
• Amos announces that God will rebuild, restore, and renew what was broken.
• The psalm paints a beautiful picture of God’s mercy and justice working together to bring peace.
• Jesus reveals that His coming ushers in something entirely new — a life that cannot fit into old patterns or rigid expectations.
The message is clear:
God restores what is broken and invites us into a new way of living through Christ.
Reflection for the Day
The prophecy of Amos ends not with judgment but with hope. God promises to rebuild the fallen house, repair the ruins, and plant His people so deeply that they will never again be uprooted. This is the heart of God — a God who restores, renews, and rebuilds.
Psalm 85 echoes this hope with poetic beauty:
“Kindness and truth shall meet; justice and peace shall kiss.”
This is what God desires for His people — a world where mercy and truth walk together, where justice and peace embrace, where God’s presence prepares the soil for blessing.
Then Jesus speaks of new wine and new wineskins.
His message is simple but challenging:
You cannot live the new life of the Kingdom with the old patterns of the past.
The disciples of John question fasting, but Jesus points them to something deeper — His presence changes everything. When Christ enters a life, He brings renewal, transformation, and a new way of seeing.
Today, God invites you to:
• Let Him rebuild what feels broken
• Let His mercy and truth shape your heart
• Let go of old patterns that cannot hold the new grace He wants to pour into you
God is not finished with you.
He is restoring, renewing, and planting you in His peace.
Prayer for Today
Heavenly Father,
thank You for being the God who restores and rebuilds.
Renew my heart today and make me open to the new work
You desire to do in my life.
Let kindness and truth guide my steps,
and let justice and peace shape my actions.
Pour Your new wine into my life,
and give me the grace to receive it with openness and trust.
