Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels

Reading 1 : Job 38:1, 12-21; 40:3-5

The LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:

Have you ever in your lifetime commanded the morning
and shown the dawn its place
For taking hold of the ends of the earth,
till the wicked are shaken from its surface?
The earth is changed as is clay by the seal,
and dyed as though it were a garment;
But from the wicked the light is withheld,
and the arm of pride is shattered.

Have you entered into the sources of the sea,
or walked about in the depths of the abyss?
Have the gates of death been shown to you,
or have you seen the gates of darkness?
Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth?
Tell me, if you know all:
Which is the way to the dwelling place of light,
and where is the abode of darkness,
That you may take them to their boundaries
and set them on their homeward paths?
You know, because you were born before them,
and the number of your years is great!

Then Job answered the LORD and said:

Behold, I am of little account; what can I answer you?
I put my hand over my mouth.
Though I have spoken once, I will not do so again;
though twice, I will do so no more.

Responsorial Psalm : Psalm 139:1-3, 7-8, 9-10, 13-14ab

O LORD, you have probed me and you know me;
you know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.

Gospel : Matthew 18:1-5, 10

The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?”
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones,
for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

 Message from the Readings

Today’s readings proclaim a comforting and humbling truth:
God sees us, knows us, and protects us — and He sends His angels to accompany us.
• Job learns that God’s wisdom is far beyond human grasp.
• The psalm reveals God’s intimate knowledge and constant presence.
• Jesus teaches humility and reminds us that every person is guarded by angels who stand before God.
The message is clear: We are never alone — heaven walks with us.

 Reflection for the Day

Job stands before God’s voice in the whirlwind.
God asks him questions that stretch beyond human comprehension:
• “Have you commanded the morning?”
• “Do you know the dwelling of light?”
• “Have you walked the recesses of the deep?”
Job realizes that he has spoken from pain, but not from full understanding. His response is simple and humble:
“I will speak no more.”
This is not defeat — it is surrender. A recognition that God’s wisdom is greater than our questions.
Psalm 139 brings this cosmic majesty close to the heart:
“You have searched me and know me… You knit me in my mother’s womb.”
God’s greatness is not distant — it is personal. He knows every detail of your life, every fear, every hope, every hidden corner of your heart.
Then Jesus reveals something astonishing:
“Their angels always behold the face of my Father.”
Guardian angels are not symbolic. They are real, present, and attentive.
They:
• Protect
• Guide
• Intercede
• Accompany
• Watch over us with love
Today’s feast invites us to three movements:

1. Embrace humility before God’s wisdom.
   Like Job, trust that God sees what you cannot.
2. Rest in God’s intimate care.
   He knows you fully and loves you deeply.
3. Thank God for the gift of guardian angels.
   They walk with you, protect you, and lead you toward God.
   Let today be a day of trust, humility, and gratitude for heaven’s companionship.

Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus, thank You for knowing me completely and loving me endlessly.
Teach me humility like Job, trust like the psalmist, and simplicity like the children You bless.
Thank You for the guardian angels who watch over me, guide my steps, and protect my soul.
Help me walk today with confidence in Your presence and gratitude for heaven’s help.
