Friday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Reading 1 : 1 Corinthians 15:12-20
Brothers and sisters:
If Christ is preached as raised from the dead,
how can some among you say there is no resurrection of the dead?
If there is no resurrection of the dead,
then neither has Christ been raised.
And if Christ has not been raised, then empty too is our preaching;
empty, too, your faith.
Then we are also false witnesses to God,
because we testified against God that he raised Christ,
whom he did not raise if in fact the dead are not raised.
For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised,
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain;
you are still in your sins.
Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
If for this life only we have hoped in Christ,
we are the most pitiable people of all.
But now Christ has been raised from the dead,
the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Responsorial Psalm : Psalm 17:1bcd, 6-7, 8b, 15
R. (15b) Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full.
Hear, O LORD, a just suit;
attend to my outcry;
hearken to my prayer from lips without deceit.
R. Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full.
I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
incline your ear to me; hear my word.
Show your wondrous mercies,
O savior of those who flee
from their foes to refuge at your right hand.
R. Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings,
But I in justice shall behold your face;
on waking, I shall be content in your presence.
R. Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full.
Alleluia : See Matthew 11:25
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth;
you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel : Luke 8:1-3
Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another,
preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God.
Accompanying him were the Twelve
and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities,
Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza,
Susanna, and many others
who provided for them out of their resources.
Message from the Readings
Today’s readings proclaim a hopeful and transformative truth:
The life we live now is not the life we will rise to — God is preparing us for glory.
• Paul teaches that resurrection is not a return to the old body but a transformation into something new, incorruptible, and heavenly.
• The psalm reminds us that God is with us, rescuing us from fear and leading us into His light.
The message is clear: What God is shaping in you now is only the beginning of what He will reveal in eternity.
Reflection for the Day
Paul answers a question that has echoed through every generation:
“How are the dead raised? With what kind of body?”
He responds with a simple but profound image — a seed.
A seed looks small, fragile, and unimpressive. But when planted, it becomes something entirely different:
• stronger,
• more beautiful,
• more fruitful,
• more alive.
Paul says this is what the resurrection will be like.
“It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.”
Our earthly life carries weakness, limitations, wounds, and struggles. But God is not finished with us.
The body we have now is temporary, earthly, and fragile — like the seed. The body we will receive is eternal, glorious, and spiritual — like the full-grown plant.
Paul then gives us a breathtaking promise:
“Just as we have borne the image of the earthly Adam,
we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Christ.”
This means:
• Your future is not defined by your past.
• Your destiny is not shaped by your failures.
• Your eternity is not limited by your present weakness.
Psalm 56 reinforces this hope:
“You have rescued me from death… that I may walk before God in the light of the living.”
God is already preparing you for resurrection life — even now, in the midst of your struggles.
Today’s readings invite us to three movements:
- Trust God’s process.
Your life today is the seed of the glory God will reveal. - Live with resurrection hope.
Weakness is not the end — transformation is coming. - Walk in God’s light.
Let His presence guide your steps toward the life He promises.
Let today be a day of hope, confidence, and renewed trust in God’s plan for your future.
Prayer for Today
Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise of resurrection and the hope of a life transformed in Your glory.
Teach me to trust Your work in me, even when I feel weak or limited.
Help me walk in Your light, live with confidence in Your love, and look forward to the day when I will bear Your heavenly image.
Amen.
